Following Directions to Make Ice-cream in a Bag

As a conclusion to our Snowville, we made Ice-cream in a Bag by measuring and combining all of the directions. Try this at home with your parents and see if you can follow the directions to make delicious ice-cream.

Ingredients:

  • Ice cubes
  • 1 cup of half and half
  • 1/2 cup Kosher salt
  • 2 Tablespoons sugar
  • 1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1 pint size ziplock bag
  • 1 gallon size ziplock bag

Directions:
  1. Combine half and half, sugar, and vanilla in pint-size bag.
  2. Seal bag tightly (do not want it to leak)
  3. Fill gallon-size ziplock bag halfway with ice cubes.
  4. Sprinkle Kosher salt over ice cubes.
  5. Insert pint-size bag with ingredients into bag with ice and salt.
  6. Seal gallon-size bag.
  7. Shake bag for 5-10 minutes until the ice-cream mixture begins to harden.
  8. Take small bag out of ice and open. Enjoy!

It's Snowing EET

Check out our newest bulletin board and try to use the EET to describe the winter-themed objects on the snowflakes. Notice the scarves of the kids match the colors of the EET. Name what each color stands for in the comments for a surprise!

SPOT - Winter Clothes On

I wanted to share some of the fun activities that we worked on this past week in our SPOT group!

At station 1, we practiced buttoning with Mrs. Tess using mittens and putting winter clothes on while practicing our zipping and dressing skills.

For station 2, the students worked on making a hat by cutting paper and putting it on their hat. They also got to put their hat on.

At the last station, the students worked on requesting different clothing to make a craft. They were able to dress themselves for winter by putting these clothes on their body. We worked on expanding our utterances by saying "article of clothes + on + me."

Sign Language - ON

Here is how to say "ON" in sign language.

Core Vocabulary - ON

Our new core vocabulary word is ON.  We have found this to be a very functional vocabulary word to target.

Here is a handout that gives more ideas on how this word can be used naturally and a home activity. Both of these will be sent home with your student.

I also wanted to share a fun song that our kids have enjoyed that targets the core word - ON.

Lions, Tigers, and POLAR BEARS!

We had so much fun learning more about polar bears last week and making our polar bear craft.  See below for a picture of our polar bear craft that can be used for home practice and an informational video to learn more about polar bears.

Minute to Win It Week - Winter Edition

Minute to Win It week is always one of my favorite. These are a couple of the games we were able to play this week after working on our speech goals.

This game was a snowball shoveling race. The students used a spoon to shovel as much snow (cotton balls) into their bucket in a minute.

Our second game was a snowman drawing competition on a plate as they followed directions. To make it more challenging, the students had to draw with the plate on their head. We had some very interesting snowmen! Below is a copy of the directions, if you want to try this game at home.

Below is the Minute to Win It timer we used for you to play at home!
